With GETAWAY DRIVER, October Films brings an event like no other to the Discovery Channel, the ultimate driving fantasy hosted by Fast & Furious star Michelle Rodriguez. This 8-episode competition series features 24 elite drivers from drift champions to street racers to hotshot YouTubers who compete to prove they have the skill behind the wheel and the mental toughness to outrun and out-drive the competition in a massive nearly 60-acre compound filled with obstacles. Part Baby Driver, part Grand Theft Auto, the Getaway Drivers will put it all on the line – sacrificing their own cars for the opportunity to be the wheelman in a real-life car chase. The rules are simple… evade the pursuers and escape the compound to score some cold hard cash. These drivers already have the loot- but can they get away to keep it?
Jen Hampson edited episodes 4 and 8, the last episode of the series, and had a blast working on this high octane, fast-paced series.

Produced by Double Act Productions for National Geographic’s Sharkfest segment, Shark Gangs is a new ob doc looking at the behaviour of sharks. For years sharks have been viewed as solitary predators, but scientists have recently discovered a surprising new behaviour. In this special, they reveal how this apex predator likes to hang out in gangs. What is behind this change? Do sharks enjoy a social life or are they working together to become even more effective hunters?
Editor Charlie Webb worked on the series and reflects on his time editing the show:
‘Really enjoyed working on the show with Alex and Rob at Double Act. Some of the photography within the film is breath-taking. The score is also amazing and really adds drama to the film. It was done by Paul Saunderson (Three identical strangers, Trying and Life). The channel loved it and I look forward to people being able to see it.’

Produced by Blink Films, this new two-part documentary for ITV explores the amazing world of conjoined twins, discovering how families cope with the extraordinary circumstance of being parents to the rarest of babies – one out of every 200,000 live births.
This documentary features three-year-old twins Callie and Carter from Idaho, who are fused from the chest down with two legs between them, and whose parents Nick and Chelsea Torres only have a few months left to decide whether to opt for separation.
They meet still-conjoined and now separated twins on their quest to make the best decision for their children. Cameras follow the work of leading British doctors at Great Ormond Street Hospital as they try to separate conjoined twins over four nail-biting operations.
Editor Tanya Trochoulias worked on Episode 2 where the Torres family find out how 18-year-old twins Sohna and Mohna from Amritsar in India cope being joined together. These twins have got over people staring at them and are training in electrical engineering observing that having four hands means they can work more quickly than others. They are healthy and happy – although they rule out getting married at the moment.
Congratulations to all who worked on Saving Notre-Dame, including editors Hacene Azzoug and Sarjit Bains, as well as the production team at Windfall Films. This documentary following the efforts to rebuild the world-famous Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris, a year from the devastating fire that ravaged the 850-year-old Gothic masterpiece was nominated as part of the documentary finalists of the New York Festival’s TV & Film Awards.
Chief architect Philippe Villeneuve urgently needs a complete picture of the damage sustained during the fire, so he initiates an unprecedented collaboration between architects and scientists. Their mission is to meticulously analyse the fallen timber, stone and fractured glass, to develop a decontamination and restoration plan. This unique opportunity offers a new insight into the medieval materials, techniques and people who built Notre-Dame.
The winners will be announced on 12th October 2021 during the National Association of Broadcasters’ Show in Las Vegas.

This three-part travelogue produced by Avalon UK follows comedian Russell Howard as he prepares his new international tour in Australia and New Zealand, becoming the first comedian to do so post Covid. At a time when we’ve never felt further apart as a world, he plans to discover what our cousins across the seas are really like, celebrating our differences and unexpected shared passions.
Following two weeks in quarantine to gain access, Howard tries divebombing, sheep shearing, underwater driving and Maori hot pool cooking in New Zealand where he meets Kiwi actor Sam Neill, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern’s partner Clarke Gayford and comedian Urzila Carlson.
Then, on the Australian leg of his journey he spends time with Tim Minchin and meets real life mermaids and gets up close to koalas in the care of Robert Irwin, son of the Aussie zoo legend Steve Irwin.
Dan Knight worked on the first episode of the series and reflected that ‘it was challenging and fun to make a travelogue in lockdown- which is a central theme of the show. It was also exciting as an editor using stand up (rather than VO) as the main narration to the adventures. Creating a refreshing take on the genre with echoes of the classic Billy Connolly travelogues from the 90s.’
Connor Snedecor, who edited episode 2 said “It was a nice virtual holiday to cut Russell’s experiences in New Zealand, the only place you could pretend the world was back to normal at the time! The production team pulled off a real feat as we didn’t just edit the show remotely, it was basically shot remotely too, with local crews.”

Ella Newton edited this documentary in which award-winning filmmaker Sasha Joelle Achilli captures the unforgettable and harrowing portrait of a doctor during the worst of the coronavirus crisis in one of northern Italy’s hospitals, revealing the struggles the medical staff had to face to fight the disease and save lives.
Another one for Bandicoot TV’s The Masked Singer which was selected as part of the ‘Entertainment Programme’ category. The wacky singing competition show’s popularity is ever growing as the judges and audience love to guess which celeb will appear behind the mask and editor Tim Fielding employed all his craft to build the tension!
Masterchef: The Professionals has been nominated in the ‘Reality and Constructed Factual’ category. Editor Tom Savage has been whipping up some fiery episodes for this cooking competition show where professional chefs get put through their paces.
Hit BBC Two Series Hospital was selected in the ‘Factual Series’ category. Mohsin Bhatti edited this series which follows the NHS in unprecedented times, dealing with the Covid-19 crisis.
ITV’s most challenging quiz show, produced by Potato, The Chase has been selected in the ‘Daytime’ category. Andrew Watters has been an integral part of the team and has edited numerous series of the show.
Vice’s Disabled not Defeated: The Rock Band with Learning Disabilities – Delta 7 was selected in the ‘Short Form Programme’ category. Editor Dan Knight loved working on this short doc that follows the story of a post-punk band made up of adults with learning disabilities, who discover the power of creativity after the heart-breaking death of one of their band members.
Two Four Productions and Boomerang’s Big Zuu’s Big Eatshas been nominated in the ‘Features’ category. Gavin Ames enjoyed working on the series not just for the great comedy but also for the mouth-watering foods that DJ Big Zuu shared with family and friends on his road trip around the UK.
Selected in the ‘Specialist Factual’ category, Putin: A Russian Spy Story is a ground-breaking new doc series to Channel 4 about the life and career of Russian president Vladimir Putin. Simon ‘Badger’ Cooper edited one of the three episodes for Rogan productions.
The British Academy Television Awards winners will be announced on 6th June on BBC One.

Richard worked on Episode 10: Collisions at Sea which investigated history’s most lethal collisions, from the HMS Curacoa sliced in half by the Queen Mary – to a schooner boat that sunk the mighty SS Oregon. Phil Craig, creative director at MSP said ‘It was a true pleasure having Richard edit on our latest series. Despite all of the many problems of working in lockdown he produced some absolutely 1st class work for MSP. He’s got a natural sense of style, pace and emotion and everything he touched looked like it cost a lot more to make than it actually did! We’d welcome him back anytime.’
Simon edited 2 episodes – Episode 3: Danger Ahead and Episode 8: Toxic Wrecks and even Edit Produced across a third. Creative director Phil went on to say that ‘During his time at MSP, Simon distinguished himself in many ways. His work was fast, intelligent and full of flair. He took charge of complicated edits, sometimes with the most minimal of supervision, and he turned difficult half-baked assemblies into truly impressive finished films in a remarkably short space of time. He was unfailingly positive and collegiate despite the many pressures of remote working, and the ticking clock of a very tight schedule. It’s no exaggeration to say that he will be the first person we hire when we get another series.’

With Putin: A Russian Spy Story, Rogan Productions brings a ground-breaking new doc series to Channel 4 about the life and career of Russian president Vladimir Putin. Simon ‘Badger’ Cooper edited one the episode of the three episodes showing how Putin’s knowledge of spy-craft defined his presidency of a nuclear power and enabled him to change the world.
Once again, The Masked Singer, produced by Bandicoot TV for ITV, made the cut as part of the ‘Best Entertainment Programme’ selection. Tim Fielding worked across the series of this eccentric singing competition show where celebrities hide their identities behind unbelievable and innovative costumes. Who can be found behind the canary, octopus, unicorn, sausage, is up to the judges to figure out!

Ben reflects that: “the show was quite challenging due to the number of cameras, gopros and bodycams, not to mention microphones. But that was also the satisfying part – bringing all this stuff together to paint a picture of what a unified team effort policing is.”
